Project stages and Outcomes
This project will be the first European initiative looking at the educational use of web comics. The proposed approach is to create a critical mass of teachers who will be trained to run pilot cases in schools and offer valuable insight for the development of training materials for the educational community. Existing usage of web comics in Education The project will collect and publish best practices on the use of Web comics in education. The best practices will include a variety of curricular areas including literacy, language learning, science education. It will also look at Web Comic authoring tools and how they can be used effectively to enhance learning strategies and lesson plans.
Teachers training materials [visit] The Case Studies will be used to create teachers training materials that describe the most effective strategies and how to using web comics in schools. This material will be created in English, Greek, Spanish and Italian.
Case Studies and Piloting The project will complete training courses for teachers. The teachers will then implement their training as Case studies within schools. Pilot case studies at schools at all 5 participating countries where students will perform learning tasks using web comic books as instructional medium. Some of the case studies will be multi-national.
Teachers training seminars Training seminars for in-service & pre-service teachers will be held in all the participating countries.
Evaluation report An evaluation report will be completed about the user trials.
Online community An online community for teachers and students will be formed to discuss the educational use of web comics.
